Hop Profile
When it comes to hops, Hooky Gold has the best of both worlds, old English and New World varieties, all from hop masters, Charles Faram:
Boil Hop
Fuggles
It is reputed that Mr Fuggle of Brenchley in Kent originally selected this variety as a seedling in 1861. Fuggle hop was the dominant hop variety in England for over 70 years until the development of high-alpha varieties made it less economical for bittering purposes. The delicate, minty, grassy, slightly floral aroma produces a clean, refreshing, full-bodied flavour present in many traditional ales. Often complimented by an addition of Golding to give the rounded, full-bodied flavour for which English Ales have became world-famous.
Boil Hop
East Kent Goldings
Synonymous with English Goldings, East Kent Goldings are a quintessentially British Hop. Developed from the Canterbury Whitebine variety in the late 1700’s, they are grown exclusively in East Kent since 1838, now only by a handful of growers. Though primarily prized for their fine floral aroma EKG also give a smooth, honey-like bittering.
Aroma Hop
Willemette
The Willamette cultivar is an aroma variety that was developed in Oregon in the early 1970s. It is a triploid seedling of Fuggle. Willamette imparts a herbal complexity to beer with a background of hedgerow fruits, excellent in Amber ales and Bitters.
